Mathew's comments: Salon builds it — but will anyone come?

Joe Hunkins · 1 year agoYes - interesting even if it fails. This is the first I'd heard about the concept but I find it very appealing. Currently posts are often elevated in status and read based on the popularity and ranking of the blog, not the post. This is not in the true spirit of new media where the quality of the content, as determined by readers (rather than aggregators or search engines), should be the key metric. Let's hope Salon has fired at least a few good shots in that direction.

Svetlana Gladkova · 1 year agoMathew, I think I know why they are so generous with their users. Since the payments are processed by Revolution Money Exchange, they seem to use the referral program with RME that earns you $10 every time you refer someone. So basically this $10 bonus is paid by Revolution Money Exchange themselves. Kind of a peculiar approach, a very creative way to use referral money.

Pete · 1 year agoHonestly, I'm having a difficult time making heads or tails of the cover page. My first impression is "Holy hell, what a hideous, cluttered mess."

mathewi · 1 year agoHave to agree, Pete. I think the design of the cover page could, er... use some work :-)

David Batterson · 1 year agoI am telling everyone about my new product for power bloggers. It allows you to integrate google adsense into your blogs. I sell it as a package for $20.00 (www.myturbotraffic.com/wordpress). These are a package of 80 wordpress themes. 30 of them are adsense integrated and clickbank integrated themes so that you can get paid to blog. As a friend and as a true service to you I will extend to you the same great deal I am giving everyone else. If your interested in one of the 30 themes (see description at www.myturbotraffic.com/products) individually I will give you one free if you will post a 200 word blog about my site (www.myturbotraffic.com) and publish it to your blog. I will also link to your blog from my website. If you are interested email me at support@myturbotraffic.com Thanks a lot...Dave!

Adina Levin · 1 year agoThe Salon site has a great many features, and lacks the single one I wish they had - a slashdot style comment rating system to improve the signal to noise ratio of huge discussion threads.
-
mathewi · 1 year agoThat's a good point, Adina. I think comment rating is a good feature as well -- perhaps they will add it later.
