NIN's recent experiment was more pay *if* you want, not pay *what* you want. The pay points were defined, it wasn't a blank box.

hey mathew
'pay what you want' like most of these things is a one time stunt. it works for the group that does it first because its new and the press loves the new. its not sustainable and not a new model. unless of course your model is "free".

I totally agree that it's not a sustainable model all by itself, David
-- but I think it could continue to be one part of the arsenal that an
artist could use, at least in a marketing sense. People love to get
things for free :-)
