And you are right that the best marketing is having a product that doesn't suck. Like that smart marketing can help a mediocre product.  On a tangent that has nothing to do with your post -- Last time i saw R.E.M in concert (it was about 7 years ago) I almost fell asleep.  It was the most boring concert I have ever been too.
