That "agent of change" idea is difficult to convey to some who have been in the industry for a long time.

I had a recent interview and started down the list of new media innovations and ideas I can bring to a radio company when the interviewer stopped me dead and said "I'm looking to hire a morning man."

He didnt want someone with a diverse list of skills who was trying to break the mold and move things forward. He was looking for a loyal soldier to hit home runs.

Looking forward and being a trendspotter and innovative leader is all wonderful, until you run into someone a rung ahead of you on the ladder merely trying to hang on.

As I mentioned before, I'm putting together a presentation called about Social Media/The Globe and Mail. One of the points that I make near the end isn't one directly pulled from the Globe's work, but echoes your last paragraph here: Forget case studies, forget best practices, just go out and do something new and interesting.
