    Seems like that's exactly what many of the Z-listers say, from down on the bottom (and often get personally attacked for having bad attitudes).

    Oh to be a dot-com billionaire.

    However, he's right in that it's HARD to make a living off of a blog. The reason we hear about people doing it is that they're exceptional.

    Hmm, I am not quite reading it the same way Matthew. First off the majority of people in the Tail are creating content for the love of it. Those who aspire to make money from it have an equal shot as everyone else. Mark is basically saying there will be hits and misses in the Tail. Quality rises to the top. That's just plain ol' survival of the fittest, no?

    I think you're right, Steve -- but I took what Mark was saying as being a little stronger than that. Not just that everyone has a shot, but that the number who succeed in any meaningful financial sense will be minuscule compared with the success of aggregators and others -- although as you point out, there are other ways of measuring success.
